This blue carbon project restores and protects 28,500 hectares of mangrove forest in East Kalimantan. Mangroves sequester carbon at rates up to 5 times higher than terrestrial forests. The project prevents conversion to aquaculture ponds while restoring degraded areas through community-led replanting. The mangroves provide critical ecosystem services including coastal storm protection, nursery habitat for commercial fish species, and water filtration.
